    Screw you PETA

    By Jim O | May 4, 2008

    PETA, in its incessant stupidity, is trying to capitalize on the tragedy at yesterday’s Kentucky Derby in pursuit of an agenda that would have us all eating cereal and salad three times a day and wearing cotton belts. Not only that, but if they had their way we wouldn’t be able to test new medicines on rats and mice.

    Now Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of PETA, has a vice president named Mary Beth Sweetland who is an insulin requiring diabetic. I wonder if Mary Beth knows that all of the original studies involved using insulin taken from slaughtered pigs and cattle which was then tested on dogs. Well, she does, and she even knows that her insulin still contains animal products. But she doesn’t see herself as a hypocrite. Ah, but I digress.

    PETA, which I am sad to say is headquartered right here in Norfolk, Virginia, today faxed a letter to Kentucky racing officials insisting that jockey Gabriel Saez, who was riding Eight Belles in yesterday’s Derby be suspended indefinitely. For those of you who are unaware, Eight Belles was the first filly to compete in the Kentucky Derby in nearly a decade, and came in second. About a quarter mile past the end of the race she suffered a tragic injury, fracturing both ankles. Because she could not stand, she needed to be euthanized. No one felt worse than Saez, except possibly the horse’s owners and trainer.

    PETA, in its letter from Kathy Guillermo, has made the ridiculous claim that Eight Belles was “doubtlessly injured before the finish”. Eight Belles trainer Larry Jones said the filly looked fine when she crossed the finish line.

    “I don’t know how in the heck they [PETA] can even come close to saying that,” Jones told The Associated Press on Sunday. “She has her ears up, clearly galloping out.”

    So PETA knows better than the man who has been training this horse. And the millions of people who have seen the race, either live in person or on television, or later on tape. How PETA officials could come to such an intellectually dishonest conclusion should be beyond me, but sadly, this has become their standard operating procedure.

    Warning, the following contain profanity but are well worth viewing:

      peta, knows better than farmers, zookeepers, animal trainers, pet owners, in fact anyone who lives or works with animals.

      They must, because the media is always asking for their opinion, and if they are not asked they give it anyway.

      The truth is, these people know nothing about real animals, they certainly don’t care about them, nor about the ever important animal-human relationship.

      All they care about is money, power, control, inflating their already over inflated ego’s and, did I mention money?

      Oh, and Sweetland isn’t the only hypocrite in the bunch. When inbred broke her wrist she said, “Thank goodness for IV’s.”

      Do as I say not as I do, and don’t you dare criticize, is their motto. inbred has it stamped on her forehead - never noticed?

      Mary Beth Sweetland hasn’t worked for PETA in more than a year, so digress away!

      @Bob

      I stand corrected. She currently works at “In Defense of Animals”, another “animal rights” group and is no less of a hypocrite. None of that changes the fact that she worked at PETA for years and still enjoys the benefits of animal research. Without it, she would have died of her diabetes long ago.
